It is estimated that there are more than 40 million people in the United States who are considered to have one or more disabilities, and they all need proper dental care. These patients are at an increased risk for caries and periodontal disease. There are various steps a dental office can take to make visits easier and less stressful for disabled patients. Office procedural steps, dental treatments, and medications are areas of focus when tailoring care for these patients. This class will discuss how dental offices can improve accommodations and procedures for disabled patients and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
