Course Description: This course introduces the Proctor Model (PM) of clinical supervision, an internationally recognized, theoretically-driven framework developed by Brigid Proctor and Francesca Inskipp and grounded in the earlier work of Alfred Kadushin. The course reviews the models three core functional domains: restorative (supervisee wellbeing and personhood development), normative (professional accountability, ethics, and legal compliance), and formative (clinical skill development and decision-making competence). Participants will examine the empirical support and validated instrumentation associated with the PM, including the Supervision Evaluation and Supervisory Competence Scale and the Manchester Clinical Supervision Scale, and compare the PM to other supervision outcome frameworks. Through applied case examples, the course demonstrates how supervisors can identify supervisee needs and select appropriate can and must interventions across restorative, normative, and formative domains. The course also addresses implications for counselor education, supervisor training, supervision credentialing, and future supervision research.
