The challenge faced by all clinicians today is to provide safe and effective dental treatment to their patients. This program will present an overview of dental pharmacology so that dental practitioners will be aware of those agents commonly used in the practice of dentistry, including local anesthetics, analgesics, antibiotics, and other anti-infectives, whose actions, effects, or interactions with other drugs may impact the treatment of systemic disease. As referred to in the recent DEA requirements, special emphasis will be given to aspects of the safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, brief intervention, and referral for appropriate treatment of patients with or at risk of developing opioid and other substance use disorders. 3 hours live credit - counts toward DEA 8-hour mandatory training
