The Overzealous Thyroid: A review and update on hyperthyroid management and associated comorbidities in cats.

Course overview

Hyperthyroidism is the most common endocrine disease in cats, affecting senior to geriatric cats. Feline hyperthyroidism is typically a progressive, slow growing condition that, left untreated, can result in deleterious reversible and irreversible changes in the body. Four treatment modalities have been described for feline hyperthyroidism, which come with various risks versus benefits. This course aims to highlight current literature discussing each of these treatment modalities, along with the diagnosis and management of comorbidities associated with or as a consequence to hyperthyroidism in cats. State regulatory protocols involving radioiodine treatment in cats will also be briefly discussed
