AP Rapid Fire: Diagnosing and Managing Dystrophies and Degenerations of the Cornea

Course overview

Corneal dystrophies are inherited conditions that typically involve abnormal material accumulation, are bilateral and progressive, and often appear earlier in life. Corneal degenerations usually result from aging, trauma, systemic disease and inflammation, are often asymmetric, and develop later in life. Both will typically degrade visual acuity if they impede the visual axis or induce irregular astigmatism. This course focuses on the diagnosis of various corneal dystrophies and degenerations and discusses options for visual rehabilitation, including surgery and medical contact lenses.
