Course overview
About 20% of dental patients suffer from bruxism and clenching, but looking solely at the patient mouth does not always provide a complete picture of what the root cause is. These conditions, which can cause not only chronic pain but also long-term physical damage, often go under-addressed for years or decades without true resolution. This course teaches participants how to ask the questions that are often overlooked, in order to determine the full cause of patient bruxing or clenching pattern - including both dental and psychological contributors. Participants will gain a diagnostic framework and learn a range of treatment plans based on individual patient needs, which may include dental appliances and procedures, emotional regulation techniques, and-or cognitive behavioral techniques. This course will further address interprofessional collaboration as a component of long-term patient care.
