Course overview
This course is intended for Florida nurses to meet their mandatory continuing education requirements related to the Florida nursing laws and rules. This course provides nurses who are licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida updates regarding the Florida Nurse Practice Act and the approval of the Nurse Licensure Compact. In addition, it describes the Florida Board of Nursing, Florida statutes related to nursing, and the Florida Administrative Code. It also explains the relationship between Florida’s Nurse Licensure Compact and the Florida Nurse Practice Act and summarizes relevant information from Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida statutes and rules in Title 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1.Describe the composition of the Florida Board of Nursing. 2.Explain the role and responsibilities of the Florida Board of Nursing. 3.Explain the relationship between Florida statutes (laws) and the Florida Administrative Code (rules). 4.Define the Nurse Compact Law and explain its impact on the nursing profession in Florida. 5.Explain the relationship between Florida’s Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) and its Nurse Practice Act (NPA). 6.Discuss how the Nurse Compact Law will impact the nurse beginning in 2018. 7.Summarize changes to the Nurse Practice Act in 2016 that will affect the nursing profession. Nursing in Florida is ever changing. In response to expanded nursing roles and specifically expanded roles for ARNPs and nurses seeking to have multistate licenses, there have been multiple changes to Florida public health statutes and to the Nurse Practice Act. It is the responsibility of each licensed professional to keep abreast of changes that impact the scope and rules for the practice of nursing.
