DEMENTIA FROM THE PERSONS PERSPECTIVE

Course overview

This course continues to follow Maria, an 83 year-old woman who is just beginning to show signs of memory loss, and her son John, as they learn about memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer?s disease. We will look at the role of the caregiver as a helper and guide through this traumatic experience. Included is a discussion of commonly asked questions, how to put yourself in the shoes of a person with memory loss, and tricks to keep your own memory sharp. After completing this lesson, the student will be able to: improve memory with simple tasks; utilize tips on how to be a good helper to a person with Alzheimer's; understand recommendations from the Alzheimer's Association on how to deal effectively with dementia care.
