Course overview

This 1 hour course discusses the impact of dementia on communication and teaches the student how to use that information to better communicate with people who have dementia. Since communication is integral in our lives as well as our occupations, it is important to understand the fundamentals of how we communicate with one another. People afflicted with Dementia communicate differently than others. The student will learn: changes that occur in an aging person's memory; how to approach a person with Dementia; the best methods of communication; how cultural differences impact communication; environmental factors; creativity's impact on the success of communication; and how to ask a person with dementia questions.
