SCREENING FOR PTSD IN RETURNING MILITARY SERVICE MEMBERS
Tracking # 20-443633
Course overview
Estimates indicate that 4% to 20% of troops returning to the U.S. have or will experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While some affected service members will immediately seek mental health services for their distress, the majority will initially request health services for physical symptoms, if they seek help at all. As troops return home, they will seek healthcare in hospitals and clinics throughout their communities. It is important for nonbehavioral health practitioners to understand the symptoms and functional sequelae of PTSD, evidence-based screening tools, and suggestions for referral for appropriate mental health evaluation and intervention.
