Course overview
This is an On-Demand webcast in Molecular Diagnostics and offers 1 continuing education (CME/CMLE) credit, that can be used to fulfill MOC Part II and CMP requirements. Molecular testing in hematologic cancers has become increasingly important for diagnosing specific disease entities and determining prognosis and treatment. This case-based approach presents various molecular targets that are routinely analyzed in molecular diagnostic clinical laboratories and discusses testing algorithms, pathologic associations, and clinical utility. Such targets include those involved in determining prognosis and treatment in acute myeloid leukemia (FLT3, NPM1, and CEBPA) and in diagnosing myeloproliferative neoplasms (BCR-ABL, JAK2, and MPL) and hairy cell leukemia (BRAF). Single nucleotide polymorphism array¿based technology, a technique that identifies prognostic determinants in chronic lymphocytic leukemias and myelodysplastic syndromes, will be discussed. By using a case-based approach, the goal of this discussion is to provide a better understanding of molecular testing in various hematologic cancers as it is applied in the clinical setting.
