Course Objectives: 1. Identify different forms of communication, such as verbal and non-verbal. 2. Explore observational skills and how to report changes in the patient¿s condition. 3. Learn ways to manage patients, families, and other health care providers. 4. Define empathy, respect, and compassion. 5. Identify ways to solve communication problems. 6. Understand ways to handle cultural and/or religious beliefs with regard to you and your patient. 7. Identify the effects of pain and medication on patient communication. 8. Indicate ways to communicate with patients with hearing or speech disorders. 9. Discuss techniques for effective communication with fellow health care team members 10. Understand details of caregiver-patient communication.
