WARFARIN COMPLICATIONS - NURSING CONTACT HOURS

Course overview

Many medical errors and malpractice suits have their basis in the failure to respect warfarin and its reputation as �the most dangerous drug in the world�. Due to the propensity for permanent disability and death from either underuse of warfarin or its hemorrhagic complications, the monetary awards to successful plaintiffs can be huge. In this course we will use several real cases to illustrate some of the common failures, delays, biases, and medical errors involving the diagnosis and management of warfarin complications. Strategies will be suggested to reduce the risks related to warfarin therapy.
