Course overview

Supervision or assistance with self-administration of medications is a key element of the personal services provided by health care professionals. This guide provides valuable training information regarding all aspects of the Florida Laws for ?assistance with self-administration of medication? as required by 429.256 and 429.52 F.S., and medication practices as required by Rules 58A-5.0185 and 58A-5.0191,F.A.C. Facilities should train their staff on facility-specific policies and procedures. Medication safety is top priority. After successful completion of this initial four (4) hour training, completion of a post-test, and demonstration of tasks and exercises associated with assistance with self-administration of medication. The participant will receive the annually, a minimum of two (2) hours of continuing education (CE) training in providing assistance with self-with self-administered medications and safe medication practices. The four (4) hour training and two (2) hours of continuing education shall be provided by a licensed registered nurse or pharmacist. Certification of completion should be maintained in the employee?s personnel file.
