After completion of the program the learner will have knowledge of national and worldwide HIV/AIDS statistics. Knowledge of global statistics from WHO. Discuss statistics of high risk groups. Understand the Florida Law on AIDS its impact on testing, confidentiality and treatment. Understand exceptions to informed consent requirements. Identify opportunistic infections acquired by HIV/AIDS patients. Identify modes of transmission of the HIV virus. Discuss the acute retroviral syndrome phase of those infected. Identify signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDS. Discuss post exposure protocol for the healthcare workers. Discuss ways to prevent improper disclosure or break confidentiality related to HIV. Knowledge of infection control procedures to prevent the spread of infection. Knowledge of current medication for treatment of HIV/AIDS. Knowledge of client education for individuals with HIV/AIDS infection.
