MEDICAL THERAPEUTIC YOGA: FOUNDATIONS FOR USING YOGA IN INTEGRATIVE & PREVENTIVE MEDICINE - SOD AT
Tracking # 20-460410
Course overview
As a healthcare professional, a therapist can influence a paradygm shift in healthcare delivery through using a model for improving patient outcomes and ultimately improving healthcare in the US today. In less than 10 years, and working outside the current insurance model in order to lower healthcare costs, Ginger Garner has been able to work with patients of all types - from pediatrics to geriatrics, from low back pain to cancer - and see them for a drastically lower cost (and overhead) through group physical therapy using the Professional Yoga Therapy model. This course introduces the professional to the use of medical therapeutic yoga in their practice. Ginger discusses how evidence-based research supports the inter-relationship of yoga with medical, psychological, biological and physical science. The therapist is taught to identify the anatomy and physiology for the different states of respiration and recognize the types of breathing and techniques and the benefits to each. Anatomy and physiology of myofascial restriction and release are covered, as well as the guidelines, precautions and contraindications for performing soft tissue mobilization in yoga postures.
