Course overview

Collaboration is a dynamic process by which persons with shared interests work together in partnership or in teams to achieve goals that would be unattainable by any single individual; it is an evolving process that is influenced by the beliefs, attitudes, and biases that each person brings to the relationship and is characterized by an exchange of knowledge and information and shared decision making, power, and goal setting. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of nurse-patient collaboration, including definitions, characteristics, and classifications of nurse-patient collaboration and the importance of the family in collaboration if the patient is a child or aged. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
