Course overview

Collaboration is a dynamic process by which persons with shared interests work together in partnership or in teams to achieve goals that would be unattainable by any single individual; it is an evolving process that is influenced by the beliefs, attitudes, and biases that each person brings to the relationship and is characterized by an exchange of knowledge and information, collegiality, open communication, mutual trust and respect, and shared decision making, power, and goal setting. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of collaboration between nursing academia and clinical nursing practice, including the characteristics of collaboration, the unique role of collaboration in bridging the cultural differences between nursing academia and clinical nursing practice, and examples of ways in which collaboration can benefit both the school of nursing and the healthcare facility. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
