Course overview

According to the United States Department of Labor, collective bargaining (CB) is ¿an industrial relations mechanism or tool and is an aspect of negotiation applicable to the employment relationship.¿ Nurses were granted the right to unionize in 1989 and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) recognizes the American Nurses Association (ANA) as a CB agent. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of collective bargaining including information on traditional verses nontraditional CB, the role of CB in nursing, and the impact of CB on the bargaining process. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
