Course overview

The nurse-patient relationship is a foundation of nursing practice, because patients experience improved care when their needs are fully considered. The nurse-patient relationship involves functioning within the limitations of the purpose of the relationship, recognition of the roles of the participants, and appreciation of patient confidentiality and the right to privacy. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of establishing nurse-patient relationships including how this impacts the patient experience, and how to effectively communicate information to patients. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
