Patient and family education (PFE) for a patient with bipolar disorder (BD) is broadly defined as the process of providing disease- and treatment-based information to the patient and patient¿s family to improve their knowledge and self-management skills and to enhance their ability to cope with the illness. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the procedure for providing patient and family education about BD, including a step-by-step process and the benefits of education on this topic. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
