Course overview

Stroke (also known as a cerebrovascular accident or CVA) is a medical emergency which occurs when there is a disturbance in the blood supply to the brain, causing areas of cerebral tissue to be deprived of oxygen and nutrients (i.e., ischemic stroke) or to be flooded with blood (i.e., hemorrhagic stroke). In either case, permanent damage or disability is possible. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the procedure for providing patient education about stroke prevention, including a step-by-step process and the benefits of patient education on this topic. Readers can explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
