Impaired healthcare professionals are individuals who misuse or have a physical and/or chemical dependence on alcohol or drugs. Impaired healthcare professionals with substance abuse disorders threaten the safety of patients and colleagues and violate organizational, state, and federal policies of alcohol and illicit drug use in the workplace.
