POISONING, ACCIDENTAL: RESPONDING

Course overview

Poison is any substance that is harmful when it is introduced into the body by ingestion, inhalation, injection, or absorption through the skin or mucous membranes. The incidence of mortality due to accidental poisoning has increased steadily since 1992. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of responding to an accidental poisoning including potential causes of accidental poisoning, clinical presentation, and nursing interventions, to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
