PRECEPTING: HELPING NOVICE NURSES OVERCOME REALITY SHOCK

Course overview

One of the primary purposes of the preceptorship relationship is to ease the transition of the new graduate nurse from a student role to a professional clinical nursing role. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of helping novice nurses overcome reality shock, including information on challenges encountered when transitioning to the professional nurse role, stages of reality shock, and fostering a supportive relationship with the novice nurse. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
