Course overview
Chikungunya (pronunciation: chik-en-gun-ye) is a virus that is transmitted to people by mosquitoes. Fever and joint pain are the most common symptoms of chikungunya virus infection. Headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash are other symptoms that may occur. It often occurs as large outbreaks with high attack rates. Outbreaks have developed in African, Asian, and European countries, as well as countries in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Chikungunya virus was found for the first time in the Americas on islands in the Caribbean in late 2013. Now American Medical Personnel must become more familiar with this virus.
