BURNOUT IN HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE NURSING STAFF

Course overview

Burnout is typically described as a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment; other manifestations of burnout include cynicism, indifference, distancing in relationships with patients, and reduced perception of personal ability. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of burnout in hospice and palliative care nursing staff, including manifestations and consequences of burnout, factors that impact the level of burnout in hospice and palliative care nurses, and self-care strategies that can help to prevent burnout in hospice and palliative care nurse. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
