Burnout is typically described as a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, cynicism, reduced perception of personal ability, and reduced personal accomplishment. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of burnout in oncology nursing staff, including information on nurse susceptibility to burnout, characteristics of burnout, and strategies for reducing burnout in the oncology environment. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
