FILIPINO PATIENTS: PROVIDING CULTURALLY COMPETENT DIETARY EDUCATION

Course overview

Culturally competent (CC) dietary education of Filipino patients is holistic and incorporates cultural beliefs, attitudes, and traditions when planning and providing care. The content of CC dietary education for Filipino patients is based on information obtained from patient/family interviews, completed written questionnaires, if available, and facility protocols specific to CC care of the Filipino patient. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of providing CC dietary education to Filipino patients, including the importance of CC education, cultural factors that impact Filipino patients¿ dietary choices, and key aspects of CC dietary education for Filipino patients. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
