Course overview

Cancer affects everyone ¿ the recipient of the diagnosis, the caregiver, and concerned and frightened loved ones. Patients, however, remain the focus of nursing care. To provide this care, a nurse requires skill and a solid and updated knowledge base for membership in a team that targets prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Nurses also provide patients and families with insight into obvious and nuanced issues of symptom management, support, and the navigation of increasingly complicated healthcare systems. This course discusses the complications associated with cancer treatments and oncologic emergencies. Course Objectives ¿Recognize the most common side effects associated with cancer treatment along with the appropriate nursing interventions. ¿Recognize the signs and symptoms of the most common oncology emergencies and interventions for each emergency.
