Course overview

Skilled nursing providers find themselves increasingly exposed to civil and criminal actions from both private and public parties. This purpose of this course is to provide facility staff with the knowledge about the issues increasingly relied upon by private attorneys seeking to file actions against providers for elder abuse and other tort claims. Also, with the increasing scrutiny by a variety of government program integrity contractors, this program will educate staff about the issues relied upon by private parties and government prosecutors seeking to explore possible actions under the federal false claims act. Specific objectives include: Identifying the types of facility issues which typically lead to elder abuse cases and other tort actions; Suggestions for providers to limit exposure to elder abuse claims and other tort actions; and Issues currently serving as topics of interest to private and government parties seeking to explore claims under the federal false claims act
