UNDERSTANDING DEMENTIA

Course overview

Our residents with dementia present care providers with many challenges, as well as wonderful opportunities. The challenge, however, is to truly understand the disease and the implications of the disease process upon the functional abilities of our residents. All too often we focus on functional loss, overshadowing our residents remaining strengths and abilities. During this presentation, Dr. Keith Savell will provide participants with an understanding of dementia enabling them to capitalize on the strengths of their residents, based on an understanding of the implications of the disease process. The better we understand the condition and its manifestations,the better care we can provide to our residents.
