Course overview
The physical assessment of a newborn is the systematic head-to-toe evaluation of a newborn patient that is performed according to body systems. In addition to the systems assessment, evaluation for the presence of prenatal growth abnormalities is performed by comparing the newborn¿s birth weight, length, and head circumference to the growth parameters of other newborns of the same gestational age. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the newborn physical assessment, including why, how, and when this is performed in the newborn patient. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
