Course overview

Teaching patients with diabetes about infrared thermometry usage involves teaching them a correct method for using infrared thermometry, and how to interpret measurements and respond accordingly. An infrared (IR) thermometer is a dermal skin temperature monitoring device used to detect early signs of diabetic foot disorders, particularly excessive pressure and ulcerations. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the procedure for providing patient education about IR measurement, including a step-by-step process and the benefits of patient education on this topic. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
