Course overview

Joint hypermobility (JH) refers to generalized joint laxity, while hypermobility syndrome (HMS) is typically reserved for the syndrome in which joint laxity is associated with pain in multiple joints. Prevalence of JH and HMS varies among different age groups, sexes and ethnicities, with prevalence being greater among children, women and people of Asian or African descent. Those with HMS may present as a result of developmental delay (in children), recurrent sprains and strains (in young adults), and chronic widespread pain (in middle-age and older adults).
