ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION: INSULIN THERAPY FOR A WOMAN WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES

Course overview

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as the presence of any degree of glucose intolerance (i.e., impaired carbohydrate metabolism characterized by abnormal glucose regulation) that begins or is initially diagnosed during pregnancy. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of administering insulin to women with GDM, including the adverse effects of insulin, the importance of glycemic control in pregnancy, and the complications of hyperglycemia, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
