Course overview

It is estimated that in 2010, Autistic Spectrum Disorder affected 14.7 per 1,000 (1 in 68) children age 8 years (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2014). Many nurses, speech therapists and audiologists, occupational therapists and mental health therapists will encounter those affected by ASD. This course reviews changes in diagnostic terminology, common traits, the incidence, possible causes, and therapies and approaches that will help persons with ASD learn and grow in an outer world that is very different from their inner experiences.
