Course overview
After completion of this program the learner will have Knowledge of pain as the fifth vital sign. Understand acute and chronic pain. Discuss break-through pain, pain flairs and noiceptive pain. Identify types of noiceptive pain. Discuss neuropathic pain and cancer pain. Identify barriers to adequate pain relief. List components of pain assessment. Discuss pain versus suffering at the end of life. Discuss pharmacological therapies for pain management. Identify special consideration of the elderly and pedicatric patient in pain relief. Discuss communication for assessment findings. Define the elements of palliative care and model of delivery. Discuss the spiritual needs of patient and end of life.
