Course overview

The purpose of this course is to provide the learner with an overview of the common acid-base imbalances, and with the knowledge and skills required to successfully interpret an arterial blood gas (ABG) result. This course is designed for the novice and experienced nurse as well as other healthcare professionals. ABG analysis is a central part of diagnosing and managing a patient¿s oxygenation status and acid-base balance. The helpfulness of this laboratory data is dependent on being able to correctly interpret the results and then correlating the findings with the patient¿s clinical presentation.
