Gastric lavage is an invasive procedure performed to remove gastric contents, which can include toxic substances in cases of severe intentional or unintentional poisoning. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of what is involved in performing gastric lavage for removal of toxic substances, including key steps in the procedure, and to aid in caring for the patient requiring this intervention. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
