Course overview
Gentamicin is commonly prescribed for neonates with suspected serious bacterial infection (SBI) or sepsis. Gentamicin and a β-lactam antibiotic (e.g., ampicillin, penicillin) are routinely administered empirically as first-line treatment for suspected SBI in infants < 60 days. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the use of gentamicin in neonates, including dosage recommendations and routes of administration, and to aid in caring for infants who are receiving gentamicin. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
