Course overview
Communicating with any patient involves providing information, but it also requires that the nurse listen well, discern what information is most important and useful to the patient, and provide that information in a manner the patient can easily understand. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of communicating with patients who are angry, including principles of therapeutic communication and specific strategies for diffusing situations involving patients who are angry, along with interventions for protecting the safety of the patient and others when physical violence is imminent. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
