Course overview

A urinary catheter is a tube inserted into the bladder via the urethra, called transurethral catheterization. The most commonly used indwelling urinary catheter is a straight (Foley) catheter (FC). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of insertion of an FC in an adult male patient using aseptic technique to permit drainage from the bladder, and to aid in caring for the patient undergoing this procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
