MENOPAUSE: AN ENDING & A BEGINNING

Course overview

The "mysteries" of a woman's body, including menopause, are seen as times of power and growth. With an increased interest in menopause, it is imperative that mid-life women be given reliable information for this time of transition. Knowledge and research on the physiological changes associated with menopause is steadily expanding. A "partnership" between women and health care providers can contribute to the quality of life expectancy. Today's welltrained and educated nurse can play an instrumental role in helping women make this transition through an ending and a new beginning. Course objectives include: * Define the terms menopause, peri-menopause, post-menopause, climacteric, and pre-menopause. * Describe the basic physiology of the normal and peri-menopausal menstrual cycles.
