Course overview

This essential seminar is for any clinician treating patients who are expected to make the transition to home after rehabilitation who may need to increase their understanding of the home modification process and common modifications. This program contains specifically designed education to assist patients who have difficulty accessing their own living environments. It will describe the concepts of Aging in Place, Universal Design, legislation and regulatory guidelines involved in the home modifications process. Therapists will learn how to conduct a comprehensive home evaluation and make recommendations for modifications. The role of communication and cognition in home safety and resources available for modifications and funding will also be explored. In today¿s healthcare climate, it is essential for clinicians to identify early the additional barriers that will prevent the ease of transition to the home. Case examples, video and presentations will be conducted to demonstrate application of the principles.
