TOUCH AND BRAIN DEVELOPMENT: INFANT TO CHILD - SOD PT

Course overview

This course will cover the typical new born brain and how it develops over the 1st five years. The way the brain develops make touch and sensory experience imperative for typical growth. However, children who do not experience the needed sensory input for normal development may have difficulties with sensory integration and appropriate functioning. The clinician will learn what children are at risk for sensory integration dysfunction and the statistics involved. Additionally the clinician will learn the importance to touch and proprioceptive input both for typical development and sensory integration therapy. We will cover what are some of the more typical behaviors that indicate sensory integration dysfunction. This course will also cover the continued resistance to acceptance of the validity of Sensory Integration Dysfunction and practical ways to educate families and other health care practitioner.
