Course overview

Health Care is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. Health care reform takes on the triple aim of providing improved quality of care to individuals, improving the health of communities and simultaneously reducing the growth in costs. These changes require the ability to develop innovative approaches, the will to change the existing culture of health care delivery, and the ability to inspire transformative change in complex organizations. This course describes the critical differences between health care managers and true leaders. Competing theories of effective leadership are presented with emphasis on the ability of leaders to transform the motivations, values and culture of all stakeholders to achieve innovative change. Specific examples of transformative change in the provision of health care services are also presented.
