Advance directives are legal documents that allow patients to spell out decisions about end-of-life care ahead of time. They provide a way to instruct family, friends, and health care professionals and to avoid confusion later on. This course introduces the therapist to Advance Directives, beginning with an examination of the reasons for compiling Advance Directives. Therapists will learn about content, the DNR, diferent classes of power of attorney, roles for the family or the medical professional, types of advance directives, and legal and regulatory issues.
