MEDICATION ERRORS: DISTRACTION AND INTERRUPTIONS

Course overview

A medication error is defined by the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCC MERP) as ¿any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication is in the control of the health care professional, patient, or consumer.¿ This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the contribution of distraction and interruptions in causing medication errors, and to present interventions to limit or reduce interruptions and distractions. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
