LMU COMPLIANCE - SAFETY CULTURE, TEAMWORK, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND MORE: UTILIZATION OF HIGH RELIABILITY PRACTICES IN PAT

Course overview

This course introduces the concepts of High reliability organizations (HROs) and safety culture and describes how different components were independently implemented in two large pathology labs almost 2,500 miles apart. Behaviors that enhance or undermine a culture of safety are covered as well as the general topic of communication theory, the beliefs and practices of pathologists regarding error disclosure and the medical-legal implications of such disclosure. The course includes both a didactic component as well as hands-on audience participation in simulated communication scenarios that include ammong others, pathology error disclosure to patients.
